P and O is the world's oldest cruise company, starting passenger shipping operations in 1822 on the routes connecting England with Iberia (Portugal and Spain). While there are some cabins on Deck 16 (the same level as the Horizon buffet) the vast majority of staterooms are located on Decks 9 to 15. Ocean Studios offers a premium cinema experience with screenings showing throughout the day.
Soak up the Caribbean sunshine
So sit back, relax, and enjoy all that this amazing ship has to offer. If you’re looking for entertainment on board P&O Arvia, you won’t be disappointed. The ship offers a wide variety of shows and activities to keep you entertained throughout your cruise.
Arvia's maiden season
As you can see, P&O Arvia is packed with features that are sure to make your cruise experience one to remember. Whether you’re looking for relaxation, entertainment, or adventure, you’ll find it all on board this stunning ship. You to play a round of mini-golf while enjoying stunning views of the ocean. And if you’re feeling brave (not me – eek!), you can even try the ship’s Skywalk, a high ropes course that takes you way above the deck.
6th Street Diner Offers An All-American Eating Experience
Arvia's naming ceremony was remembered for the breaking (in the hull) of the world’s largest bottle of rum - Mount Gay Rum's Black Barrel - in a specially made 15-liter glass bottle. A replica of the 15L Black Barrel (demijohn bottle) remained on the liner. Everything scheduled on Arvia is listed both in the Horizon programme (delivered to the cabin nightly) as well as on the app. There’s always plenty going on from line dancing classes to dance workshops to pub games to quizzes.
P&O Cruises Arvia Deck Plan to Feature Line's First-Ever Escape Room
Another venue for shows is The Club House, a lounge which hosts game shows, tribute acts and themed music nights. P&O Cruises are in process of moving to an app-based booking system for restaurants and entertainment, which frustrates some guests who prefer to disconnect on vacation. Those who prefer a more traditional approach to cruising will still find everything they are used to on Arvia, but it’s sheer size may be off-putting especially to those used to the older, smaller ships in the P&O fleet. There are many other bars throughout the ship including several in the atrium and three in and around the SkyDome.

Ships Monthly July 2023 issue out now

In April 2022, P&O signed a partnership with The Tidal Rum (produced by the Shorts Boy Distillery founded by Ben Clyde-Smith and Harry Coulthard) to create an exclusive rum blend for MS Arvia's Caribbean cruises. The Tidal Rum is a blend of cask-aged Caribbean rums (produced in Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad, Dominicana). Via the partnership, The Tidal Rum is produced on the ship (in Arvia's Anderson's Bar, the first at sea rum distillery) and also available for purchasing (in bottles) fleetwide. P&O Arvia and Iona ships are from the Carnival Corporation's Excellence Class (aka "Helios" and "Carnival XL"). Far from being gimmicky and throwaway, this high-ropes course is properly challenging and, at times, a little bit scary. One section requires you to walk a plank cantilevered high above the sea and ring a bell from the end -- this is leg-trembling stuff.
Gamers (max capacity 10 people per session) have to solve "puzzles" with two live-action-packed storylines. The 3D gaming experiences feature surround sound, stunning underwater scenery, sunken cities, real and fictional sea creatures. The simulators were developed by tennagels Medientechnik GmbH (1999-founded, Dusseldorf-based company specializing in creative media systems). Adjacent to the Beachcomber (at the bow on Deck 18) is The Retreat - an adults-only VIP Sundeck with 2x outdoor Jacuzzies/whirlpools. This is the ship's "spa terrace" with several shaded private cabanas (available for rent).

Thankfully the roof above its Sky Dome has been designed to retract, giving top decks an extra outdoor swimming pool. Thanks to the retractable roof on Arvia's Sky Dome, there are now four outdoor pools (five if you count the swim-up bar) staggered across the ship's top three decks, as well as a splash zone on Deck 18. Here's where you’ll also find the high ropes, mini-golf, jogging track, sports court and kids clubs, which means that during school holidays these decks tend to feel busier than normal. Alternatively there's also the adults-only Retreat -- an extra-fee outdoor sanctuary with loungers, two whirlpools, on tap refreshments and beautiful vistas. At the heart of Arvia's deck plan is the all-new and lighter Grand Atrium with three-storey glass walls filling the space with bright, widescreen sea views. Arvia also has the first rum distillery at sea as well as two new restaurants, 6th Street Diner and Green & Co.
P&O Cruises Covid Rules
The most popular (and where it’s always hardest to secure a sun lounger) are the two infinity wake pools at the aft of Decks 16 and 18. The third main pool is in the SkyDome which, thanks to its retractable roof, is largely used as an outdoor pool instead of an indoor one. And the fourth is the Beachcomber Pool which is found at the front of the ship on Deck 18. It's generally quieter at this end of the ship and easier to find a sun bed, whether by the pool or out on deck. Other drinking and dining venues include the Keel and Cow gastro pub and the Hook and Vinegar seafood takeaway. The upper open decks include the main pool and lido areas, sports area, Beachcombers pool, and infinity pool with adjacent bars.
YEs the ship is huge but rarely felt mobbed even though this was the Easter holidays and the ship was full. If you don't want to head quite so far afield as the Caribbean or spend as much time at sea as on a Transatlantic crossing, Arvia's maiden season also boasts sailings to the Mediterranean. Setting sail from Southampton, guests can enjoy ports of call in Spain, Portugal and the Canary Islands on the newest P&O Cruises' ship.
As well as getting to visit some of the beautiful Caribbean ports of call mentioned above, the iconic Atlantic crossing also gives guests the opportunity to explore every corner of the ship. Castries is the vibrant capital of St. Lucia, a Caribbean island known for its verdant landscapes, breathtaking wildlife and Les Pitons, the island's iconic volcanoes. With Castries just a short walk from the cruise terminal, it won't be long before you're exploring this colourful Caribbean capital. Take a stroll through the shops, pick up a local souvenir from the bustling markets or sit down at a restaurant to try the local cuisine. Details of new ship P&O Arvia’s naming ceremony have been revealed - find out how you could be there. If you missed the live feed of Arvia’s Naming Ceremony you can still catch up, plus win one of 5 cruises.
Delve into the island’s history, culture and food, during engaging interactions with the locals. With her retractable SkyDome and bright, light spaces, she’s designed to make the sea the star and let the sunshine in. If you’re planning a cruise on P&O Arvia, you’ll have the opportunity to visit some incredible ports of call. Here are some of the destinations you can expect to visit on your Mediterranean, Caribbean, or Northern Europe cruise.
The VIP sundeck (accessed via prepaid day- or voyage-long passes) is inclusive of alfresco dining, Spa massages, dedicated staff service (chilled drinks, cold flannels, light snacks). New (Arvia ship exclusive) treatments include Kneipp Walk (pebble foot massage combined with hot-and-cold water treatments). Part of the wellness complex is also the fleet-first Barber Station (haircuts/male grooming collections from the premium brands American Crew, Barbour Pro, Clarins for Men, Clinique for Men). During the day, SkyDome serves resort-style leisure activities and offers entertainment and casual dining. The night entertainment includes on-roof media projections, laser shows, aerial acrobatics performances, DJ disco parties, theatrical productions, movies (on a large LED screen).
